Join a growing renewable energy company as a BESS Land Sourcing Specialist, playing a key role in identifying and securing suitable land for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Japan.
Based in Tokyo, you will manage land sourcing activities from initial site identification through landowner negotiations, acquisition agreements, preliminary due diligence, and early-stage development support. You will assess potential sites based on ownership, terrain, permitting requirements, local conditions, and other development risks.
The role involves working directly with landowners, real estate partners, brokers, judicial scriveners, local stakeholders, and internal development teams to secure new opportunities and progress BESS projects from the earliest development stage.
You will also gain exposure to community consent, permitting, and High Voltage (HV) and Special High Voltage (SHV) project development, making this an opportunity to build expertise in Japan's growing battery energy storage and renewable energy infrastructure market.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new land suitable for the company's BESS development projects across Japan.
- Negotiate directly with landowners and manage agreements related to land acquisition.
- Coordinate with judicial scriveners on legal and administrative matters related to land acquisition.
- Prepare preliminary site reports covering land location, ownership status, terrain conditions, and other relevant information.
- Identify potential development risks and conduct preliminary due diligence on critical permits and local requirements.
- Develop new partnerships and maintain relationships with existing landowners, real estate partners, brokers, and other sourcing partners to generate new project opportunities.
- Manage incoming project and land information while monitoring development progress and project status.
- Support processes involving neighboring landowner and community consent, as well as local, prefectural, and national approvals.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different departments to progress BESS development opportunities from initial identification onward.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Experience sourcing and developing land-based projects from an early stage in the Japanese market.
- Experience negotiating directly with landowners and securing land for project development.
- Experience with community consent and permitting processes for HV or SHV projects in Japan.
- Licensed Real Estate Transaction Agent (宅地建物取引士) qualification is required.
- Experience identifying potential development risks related to land, permitting, and local requirements.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree.
