Join a growing renewable energy team in Japan as a Senior Civil Engineer, taking a key role in the delivery of Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) EPC projects.
You will supervise civil engineering and construction activities at project sites across Japan, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, contractual requirements, and Japanese regulations.
The role covers a broad range of civil infrastructure, including earthworks, drainage, access roads, concrete foundations, trenches, and retaining structures, with responsibility extending from construction through commissioning and final project handover.
You will also act as the company's Sen'nin Gijutsusha (専任技術者) and support the maintenance of its construction business licence in Japan. Key Responsibilities
- Act as the company's Sen'nin Gijutsusha (専任技術者) and support the maintenance of its construction business licence.
- Supervise and coordinate daily civil construction activities across renewable energy and BESS project sites in Japan.
- Oversee earthworks, drainage systems, access roads, concrete foundations, trenches, retaining structures, and other civil infrastructure.
- Ensure civil works comply with approved drawings, specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable Japanese regulations.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve technical and construction issues arising during project execution.
- Monitor project schedules, construction progress, costs, and risks, recommending corrective actions when required.
- Support tender and proposal activities by reviewing civil engineering scopes and obtaining subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare site reports, progress updates, and relevant technical documentation.
- Coordinate civil engineering activities required for commissioning and final project handover.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering, construction supervision, or EPC project delivery.
- Proven experience supervising civil construction works at project sites in Japan.
- Valid First-Class Civil Engineering Construction Management Engineer (1級土木施工管理技士) qualification is mandatory.
- Must be qualified to act as Sen'nin Gijutsusha (専任技術者) under the company's construction business licence.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience coordinating contractors and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with technical, contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Practical experience overseeing civil construction activities and resolving technical issues during project delivery.
Soft Skills:
- Strong site coordination and construction supervision capabilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving technical and construction issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, designers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Strong attention to quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and project risk.
- Ability to manage multiple site priorities while maintaining construction standards and project schedules.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Fluent level.
- English: Intermediate to business level.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer - Construction (技術士・建設部門).
- Supervising Engineer Certificate (監理技術者資格者証).
- Surveyor or Assistant Surveyor qualification (測量士・測量士補).
- Construction Machinery Operation Certificate (車両系建設機械運転技能講習).
- Experience delivering renewable energy, Solar, BESS, or similar EPC infrastructure projects.
