Infrastructure Engineer

A large enterprise organisation is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their Servers & Platforms team on a 12-month contract. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys reviewing existing environments, improving stability and performance, and producing high-quality documentation to support future transformation work.
You'll work across both on-premises and cloud environments, helping uplift core infrastructure, enhance security, streamline operations, and support ongoing technology modernisation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Conduct a full review of current infrastructure across on-prem and cloud platforms.
- Identify optimisation opportunities across performance, capacity, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Develop detailed documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and configuration records.
- Work collaboratively with internal IT teams and external vendors to validate configurations and industry best practice.
- Support the uplift and hardening of infrastructure services to meet evolving compliance and operational standards.
- Contribute to cloud re-platforming initiatives, particularly within Microsoft Azure.
- Provide Level 3 support for infrastructure-related issues throughout the contract.
- Support knowledge transfer, training, and onboarding of internal team members.

What You Bring
- 5+ years' experience supporting and implementing multi-site infrastructure environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure, VMware, and Windows Server technologies.
- Solid understanding of Active Directory (on-prem + cloud), networking fundamentals, load balancing, and virtual desktop technologies.
- Experience maintaining system documentation, BCP/DR plans, and operational runbooks.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Comfortable working under pressure, managing multiple priorities, and delivering to deadlines.
- Certifications such as ITIL, CCNP, VCP, MCITP are highly regarded.
- Experience in regulated or professional-services environments (legal, financial, consulting) is a bonus.
