A top-tier investment bank is seeking a Legal Counsel with expertise in derivatives, repo, securities lending, and ISDA documentation. This is a high-impact, in-house legal position supporting complex financial transactions and ensuring compliance with Japanese and international regulations. You'll work closely with trading desks and cross-functional teams on fast-paced, high-stakes deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documentation including ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA, and JASDA agreements
- Provide legal advice on derivatives, repo, and securities lending transactions
- Interpret and assess the impact of domestic and international financial regulations
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal risk, transaction structuring, and regulatory compliance
- Support compliance functions for trading-related legal issues across the business
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Legal experience in securities or banking, particularly involving derivatives and ISDA documentation
Technical Skills:
- Strong contract drafting and legal interpretation capabilities
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Business level (written and spoken)
Soft Skills:
- Excellent cross-functional communication and negotiation skills
- Strong judgment and ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Bengoshi (Japanese attorney) qualification preferred
- Experience in cross-border transactions or within global legal teams
- Understanding of international financial regulations and documentation standards
