Job Description

MMK Is exclusively partnering with a major global player to find their next strategy superstar - this is not your average strategy role.

The Business

The client is one of the largest global players in the construction materials and products industry. The business has strong growth ambitions in Australia to complement its leading positions in Europe and the US. With a collaborative and inclusive culture, the organisation is looking for a talented, commercially minded strategist to help achieve success .

The Strategy and Development Team is focused on strategic acquisitions of new businesses, but isn't a traditional M&A team as such - the focus is far broader than simple transactions, and the approach differs from PE mentality in that businesses are purchased with the intention of growing and prospering as part of a leading global organisation.

The Role

This position is suited to a passionate strategic thinker and leader who is diligent, analytical and capable of being thrown in the deep end. The successful person needs to be a strong team player and have exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as a real passion for growing this business from the ground floor. Due to the global nature of the team, initiative and self-direction is a must.

In this role, you will drive the build-out strategy - 'what is the strategy to significantly scale up the position in Australia and how can it be achieved through the identification of potential acquisition opportunities. While leading strategic processes, you will also be supporting financial analysis, M&A transactions and major projects in existing businesses, as well as communicating and presenting insights to C-suite stakeholders. Your role in M&A projects will span opportunity identification and analysis, the internal approval process, deal execution and integration, giving broad exposure to the inner workings of a major multinational conglomerate as well as having the opportunity to work closely with local businesses helping them refine their strategic agendas.

You will collaborate with senior stakeholder across the Group , and help drive high value projects from the ground up, across the full lifecycle of any acquisition. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to gain global exposure with unlimited future opportunities for a superstar candidate.

Your Profile

Aside from the right attitude and willingness to help deliver such lofty goals, you will have:

  • 7+ years' experience in a consulting or industry strategy role, with a preference for exposure to construction/building or similar "heavy" industries (oil/gas, mining, resources, construction)
  • The ability to communicate with very senior stakeholders and high level of gravitas
  • Leadership skills and a collaborative, humble working style
  • A detail oriented nature and analytical approach, with exceptional powerpoint/excel skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian economy, with a preference for existing networks/relationships in the market
  • Exceptional economic knowledge, and ability to understand broad market trends and view acquisition opportunities through a commercial lens
  • General "self starter" attitude and proclivity for getting stuck into tasks, ability to self motivate and volume requirements when deadlines loom.

What's On Offer

An exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and experienced professional to take a step up into a role with true ownership and impact. Surrounded by a close-knit team of collaborative peers, with supportive leadership and senior sponsors, expect to be stretched and challenged to reach your full potential. The chance exists to work on major acquisition projects and gain deep experience in more operational aspects of running a business - this is not your average strategy role.
