About the Role
We're working with a very exciting Fintech who are looking for a hands-on Data Software Engineer to join a high-performing data and engineering team working on real-time, microservice-based data platforms. This is a unique opportunity for someone with strong software engineering fundamentals who also thrives in data architecture and modelling.
You'll be joining a team of Data Engineers who come from varied backgrounds and this hire is specifically aimed at bringing in a strong builder mindset: someone who writes clean, production-grade code, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and wants to shape standards, not just follow them.
This is not a BI, data warehouse, or DBA role. We're looking for an engineer who sits at the intersection of software and data building systems that are scalable, governed, and modern.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain real-time data services and pipelines using Python, SQL, Spark, and cloud-native tools.
- Lead data modelling efforts using defining patterns, standards, and best practices.
- Contribute to the development of an internal data governance and modelling framework used across multiple domains.
- Work closely with engineering, risk, and governance teams to ensure high-quality, compliant, and reusable data products.
- Actively contribute to CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code workflows.
- Help drive a culture of quality, technical excellence, and strong delivery.
Your Background
You're likely a strong Software Engineer with Data Engineering experience OR a Data Engineer who's moved into Software. You enjoy building real solutions from scratch, not just maintaining pipelines. You're confident, technically curious, and value strong engineering principles.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
- Experience with Databricks, or similar tools
- Deep understanding of data modelling
- Exposure to cloud environments (preferably AWS)
- Experience with tools like GitHub, Jenkins, VSCode, GitHub Actions
- Understanding of CI/CD, microservices, and Kubernetes
- A strong communicator who's not afraid to challenge assumptions and influence standards
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with BitQuery, Snowflake, or Hadoop-based architectures
- Experience in regulated industries or risk-aligned functions
- Exposure to marketing tech, growth data, or similar domains
Who You Are
- Technically confident you enjoy writing software, solving problems, and raising the bar
- A strong individual contributor, not looking for people management (yet)
- Comfortable working across stakeholders from engineering, risk, and data governance
- Someone who wants to shape systems not just plug into them
- Excited by autonomy, ownership, and the chance to make a real impact
If you're a software-minded data engineer or a developer who thrives in data, and you're ready to take on a technical challenge that matters, I'd love to speak with you.
