Infrastructure Engineer - Servers
About the job
Infrastructure Engineer - Servers (12-Month Contract)
Location: Open to candidates in Sydney
Contract Type: Fixed-term, 12 months
Work Setup: Hybrid/flexible
The Role
We're looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join a national technology team on a 12-month contract. This role sits at the intersection of cloud platforms, legacy systems, and enterprise networking and will suit someone who enjoys untangling complexity, improving infrastructure performance, and documenting systems to a high standard.
Your focus will be split across three areas:
- Reviewing and auditing the current infrastructure setup (on-prem and cloud)
- Optimising and improving systems with performance, security, and efficiency in mind
- Documenting everything in a way that enables others to maintain and build upon your work
This is a technical role with tangible impact - your input will directly influence how infrastructure is supported and scaled across multiple office locations.
What You'll Be Working With
You'll engage with a modern (but mixed) tech stack, covering both traditional systems and cloud-native services. Technologies you may touch include:
- Azure (IaaS, AVD, AD, NSGs, ExpressRoute)
- VMware, Hyper-V
- Cisco switching and Wi-Fi, Palo Alto firewalls, SD-WAN
- Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint
- Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server services (DHCP, DNS, ADFS, GPOs)
- SolarWinds, Rubrik, Azure Site Recovery
- PowerShell scripting and process automation
- Tools for documentation, diagrams, and SOPs (Visio, Confluence, etc.)
Experience with legal-industry tools (e.g. iManage, Intapp, Elite 3E) is useful, but not essential.
Your Day-to-Day Could Include
- Running a detailed assessment of the current infrastructure footprint
- Identifying weak points or inefficiencies in architecture or operations
- Improving documentation, including network and system diagrams, configs, and SOPs
- Advising on cloud migration strategies or re-platforming where relevant
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners
- Providing senior-level technical support where needed
- Running knowledge transfer sessions to help upskill others on the team
What We're Looking For
Someone who brings:
- Hands-on experience in Azure and virtualisation platforms
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking and system security
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- A proactive, self-directed mindset with the ability to work independently
- 5+ years in infrastructure or systems engineering roles
- Confidence leading projects or technical streams end-to-end
Certifications like ITIL, Microsoft, VMware or Cisco (e.g., VCP, CCNP, Azure Architect) are a bonus
