MMK Projects, Transformation and Consulting Team have gained valuable insights from Project Management leaders across the country on how IT/Business Projects are being impacted due to Covid-19.

Project Leaders Insights during Covid-19The results and feedback from over 150 senior project professionals can be seen below. Firstly, I would like to thank all who participated across various industries and sectors.

Project leaders continue to navigate through difficult challenges during this time. Interestingly 65% of current IT/Business projects are proceeding as planned, with 35% either paused or deferred for a later date. Some of the participants of our survey had the following to say about challenges currently facing them.

"Getting suppliers to respond, many vendor and client resources are closed making it difficult to facilitate project progression"

"Our business is still putting Covid-19 responses in place to facilitate fully effective remote working". Another big challenge seems to be "effective virtual team collaboration and managing the work-life balance with young kids.

Another area we focused on was the main reasons so many projects fail. Some respondents stated that "Poorly defined requirements and not spending a larger amount of time getting these correct" was the main reason whereas others believed that not a strong enough "business case" to be the deciding factor. The top pick was "Poorly defined objectives" (32%).

In relation to project tools and software used to deliver projects, it seems Microsoft Projects is the main resource used. Jira follows closely in second. Feedback from other participants stated that they use “Jama”, “Brightworks”, “Bubble Innovator”, “Salesforce” and “inhouse developed systems”

Innovation will be key for organisations to create a competitive advantage post Covid-19. Project leaders will need to focus on people, processes and technologies in order to do so. Interestingly it seems that project professionals will make investments in two crucial areas. First "Learning and Development" and secondly "Big Data". It is great to see that Project Leaders and organisations are focusing on people first. Upskilling their employees and investing in future technologies.
