In Hong Kong, it is particularly common that working parents employ a helper to take care of their children as well as support the household duties.

Our candidates often share their concerns of work expectations, and as career advisors it is essential that this is communicated to the future employer to ensure expectations and deliverables are matched from both sides in a city as busy and fast pace as Hong Kong.

It can be very challenging for working parents to balance a professional career while spending sufficient time to bond with their children growing up. Therefore, we have conducted a survey amongst working parents in Hong Kong to see how much time they actually spend with their children daily.

The survey revealed that 73% of the respondents work between 41 and 60 hours weekly, and spend on average 2 hours and 51 minutes with their children daily but (the majority 63%) think they should spend more time with their children. When answering questions on their children's preferences, only 20% had all answers correct, out of 5. The majority (89%) stated "work" as the main reason preventing them from spending time with their children, compared to "personal development" which counted for 10%.
