“Good morning, Morgan McKinley, Kimberly speaking.”

“Hi there, I’m looking to hire people for my team.” 

“Of course, what area of expertise are you looking to hire in?” 

“I’m looking for account managers.”

“I’m sorry, we can’t help you as our area of expertise lie in Accounting & Finance, Technology, Data Analytics, Business Transformation, Risk & Compliance, Strategy & Innovation.” 

“Oh… Can’t you try to fill them?” 

“Unfortunately, because we are a specialised recruitment agency, we wouldn’t have the appropriate network to provide the best candidate and service we like to adhere to.” 

“Alright, I understand. Thanks anyways.” 

“You are welcome and have a good day.” 

It’s sad whenever I get off the phone and that happens. That’s one more person we couldn’t help, one more person we had to turn down. 

There are a lot of times, I get asked why we only recruit in professional roles when those people already have the ability to get any job they please. 

The truth is, as a specialised recruitment agency, we’re not just about pinning people as numbers to be crunched every day. You are not just another ‘sale’ to us as many choose to believe of recruiters/ headhunters. 

So the big question is, what really sets us apart from all the other recruitment agencies? 

We have recruitment consultants. Now, you may laugh and think that this is just something every other agency would say too. Whilst the recruitment part still holds true, our consultants actually do more than just find you the next person to fill the hole in your team. We even have a system in play to show that we go above and beyond just finding the right person for the right company as this would reflect on their personal career progression as well.

But back to it. 

Our consultants actually care about you. 

I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably snorting at me right this second. Recruiters don’t care about anything but putting numbers on the board. 

Not true in our case. Given I work with them every day, let me give you an example of how I see it. 

Just think, you’ve had a long week and you forgot that you needed to get a gift for a baby shower. Now, you’ve never had a kid, have no clue about what kids need or want at this stage.

Who is the first person that pops into your mind to ask for advice? Perhaps your mutual friend who has 3 kids. Why? Because you know that firstly, they have kids they would know exactly what would be good for a newborn and secondly, they would know where to get these things.

Whereas, if you asked someone who has never had kids but been to lots of baby showers, they could tell you the various gift options you could get but not know whether those gifts were of any use or not. 

Our consultants are the same. They would be someone you call when you need advice on the market space that you’re working in. They give you the low down on current events, what the future of the workplace looks like and how you can stay on top of change. They can do this because it’s their bread and butter and they invest the time in getting to know you as a person and as an organisation, what you like to hear from them and how they can help you grow.

Of course, this is centred around the subject matter of people and you might think that you know what you want, but they’re here to listen, be your sounding board and give you what you need instead. 

Which brings me to my next point. 

They partner with you, not work for you. 

What does that mean? Well, because they’ve spent all this time getting to know you as a person, how you work, the little things that get you excited or annoy you (goes both ways!), our consultants now not only specialise in the area they work in but also in the workplace version of you. 

I know, I know. 

We’re getting real up close and personal here, but that’s really what sets apart specialised recruitment agencies vs general recruitment companies. The understanding that everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits all solution.

Not many people get their clothes tailored anymore. In the rare occasion they do, it would be for a piece of garment that’s really important to them - be it a suit for your first job or a gown for your wedding.

You go to a tailor because you know that your body shape is unique and whilst you can potentially find something off the racks in a fast fashion store, you know deep down there could be that extra inch of cloth that’s too long for you or the shoulder of that jacket that doesn’t fit quite right. 



So you walk in, and the tailor gets you to describe what you want to get a rough idea. Of course you’ll have an image of a suit design you’ve seen on someone else which you really like for example, but it doesn’t fit you. You get upset because you’ve set your mind on it and you begin to feel demotivated. 

Then, the tailor comes up with a compromised solution of changing the colour of the fabric, and you find yourself slowly nodding your head being open to the idea. Then, the measuring of your waist and height begins followed by the poking of the needles. It gets uncomfortable but it has to be done to get the right measurements so you get the perfect fit to you. 

You talk about the reason you’re making this suit and when it can be completed. A week later, you walk in, the suit is ready, the colour is different but it’s starting to grow on you. However, you’ve lost a bit of weight and you’ve got to alter the waist size. The tailor goes through the process again to make sure you get exactly what you asked for. By the end of it all, you walk out with an amazing suit which you and your tailor made together because you had an idea and he executed it for you. 

Now translate all of that into the recruitment process. Our consultants are the tailors and you need the suit. 

We know how important it is to find the right person to join your team so you can move forward and continue to shape high performing teams. You could go to any recruitment agency to find someone to fill the gap but you know there will be areas that just won’t sit quite right. 

So you come to us and our specialised consultants might ask you difficult questions because it is crucial to give you the best tailored solutions to your needs rather than tick the boxes you have set in your mind. Complications might arise but they work together with you to ensure you don’t have to go through the whole process again any time soon.

When you do, however, need another suit, you’ll come back to the same tailor because you know the quality of the product and the service you’ll be getting is what you want.
