Ivan Lam, Associate Director IT at Morgan McKinley Hong Kong has recently been interviewed by Ignites Asia to discuss the increasing hiring trend for cyber-security professionals in the asset management industry.

There is currently an increasing demand for cyber-security experts coming from banks and asset management companies and the trend is expected to continue throughout 2015.

According to Ivan Lam, asset management companies are not only looking for Information Security and Risk Management specialists, but are also trying to develop teams with diverse expertise in application, infrastructure and governance. He also says that professionals in access management are highly sought-after.

However employers are facing the challenge of how to retain their cyber processionals as there is currently a limited pool of candidates in this field. Therefore financial services employers will need to offer competitive salaries to attract the best talent which is a trend already identified in certain sectors such as gambling.

While the Hong Kong Productivity Council is raising awareness against cyber-security attacks, Ivan Lam adds that cyber-security also concerns anti-money laundering and any forms of digital penetration to sensitive information. Therefore it is essential for companies to provide strict guidelines to employees to raise their security measures.
